As a review for the week we spent our time in math practicing finding common denominators, which will come in handy for adding and subtracting fractions. We also reviewed turning improper fractions into mixed numbers and vice versa. The students also had the chance to learn some new vocabulary along the way. Least Common Multiple or LCM and Greatest Common Factor or GCF. This review came with finding multiples and finding factors, as well as learning the difference between these vocabulary words. The students were able to display their understanding in some self created posters.
As we continue in math, we are diving into a review of old and slightly new concepts. For example, the students are reviewing order of operations with the added understanding of the distributive property. Just as a review: Order of Operations is Parentheses, Exponents, Multiply or Divide (whichever comes first), then Add or Subtract (whichever one comes first). The Distributive Property requires that you multiply the outside number to both numbers inside the parentheses. This will come in handy when we start to do algebra and have to simplify expressions. Your student has handouts and examples of both of these math concepts.
