In our first two weeks beck and school we began to get to know one another better through activities that both had us sharing a little bit about ourselves and activities that had us engaging with people that we don’t always talk to. The students each had an opportunity to share about themselves through our Shoebox Autobiographies. Each student presented some objects, in a shoebox, that represented who they are and painted a picture of the things that make them tick. Some students shared trophies, pictures, and Jerseys, while others shared trinkets from collections or souvenirs from their travels. This was just one way we spent time getting to know one another. I appreciate how open each member of the class was in sharing the things most personal to them.
We also took time practicing acts of kindness. The students were each asked to compliment one another in a anti-bullying campaign activity. Throughout the year we will continue to practice anti-bullying strategies and finding ways to make one another feel safe and confident in the classroom. Enjoy some positive music to continue to promote kindness (and some pictures from our first week).
